Child's body recovered from Munshiganj oil tank

The body of a child was recovered from an oil tank at a filling station in Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj district late Sunday night. 

Fire service personnel retrieved the body from the oil tank of Hasara filling station in the upazila.

The deceased, Junayed, 12, was son of Nur Hossain from Nayapara in the upazila.  

According to locals, the filling station had been closed for a month and preparations to reopen it had been underway, with cleaning of the oil tanks ongoing for several days. On Sunday evening, workers cleaning the tanks discovered the body and immediately informed the police and fire service. 

The victim's family members said that Junayed had a friend named Rahat, who occasionally worked at the filling station. He often visited the station to play with Rahat and had expressed interest in working there, though his family discouraged it. Rahat has been missing since the incident as of Monday morning.  

Confirming the recovery, Warehouse Inspector of Srinagar Fire Service Abul Kalam Azad said, "Fire service officials faced challenges during the recovery operation due to accumulated gas inside the tank, which caused an explosion, injuring a firefighter and four others. The presence of a large amount of gas inside the tank hampered the operation. Despite the challenges, the boy's body was retrieved after hours of effort.�  

Srinagar Police Station officer-in-charge Kaiyum Uddin Chowdhury said that Junayed's body was found inside, showing signs of injury. How he ended up in the tank remains unclear and is under investigation. 

The body has been sent to Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy and efforts are being made to locate Rahat for further inquiry, added the OC
