Man killed in Rajbari road accident

A youth was killed and five others were injured as a bus collided with a battery-operated van at Goalanda upazila in Rajbari district on Tuesday.

The incident took place at around 6:00 PM near Mokkuler Dokan area, adjacent to Nabuo Chimdiddin Pura Government Primary School on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in the upazila.

The deceased, identified as Mohammad Jahangir Mollah, 35, was a passenger of the van. He was from Shomeshpur village in Rajbari's Dashi union and worked as a mason. 

Three of the injured passengers received primary medical treatment and were sent home, while two others were seriously injured and taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for further treatment. 

According to locals, they heard a loud crash and rushed to the scene to find the van crushed and lying on its side with six people scattered around. The injured were immediately rescued and taken to the Gopalganj Health Complex where one person was confirmed dead at the scene.

Confirming the incident, Ahladipur Highway Police outpost sub-inspector Juwel Sheikh said, "Police recovered the body from the spot and it would be handed over to the family after completing legal procedures and that efforts were underway to apprehend the bus driver responsible for the accident."
