A motorcyclist was killed in a road accident at Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat district on Tuesday afternoon.
The accident occurred near Mirzarkot Model Mosque area on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway in the upazila.
The deceased, Sohel Rana, 32, was son of retired teacher Abdus Sattar from Momimpur village in Jongra union of the upazila. He worked as a computer lab operator at Momimpur Bashkata Secondary School in the same union.
According to local and police sources, Sohel was traveling home to Jongra from Patgram upazila on his motorcycle around 3:00 PM when a truck heading towards Lalmonirhat from Burimari hit his motorcycle from behind. The collision left Sohel critically injured. Locals rushed him to Rangpur Medical College for advanced treatment but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Patgram Police Station officer-in-charge Ashrafuzzaman Sarkar, confirmed the incident, stating, "We have received information about the accident and the fatality. The investigation is being handled by Hatibandha's Barkhata Highway Police."
When contacted, Barkhata Highway Police OC said they are gathering further details about the accident and legal actions will be taken.
