Couple killed in Dhamrai bus accident

The tragic incident occurred on Friday morning at Dhulivita area on the Dhaka-Aricha highway.  

Savar Highway Police Station sub-inspector Anjil confirmed the incident on Friday evening.  

The deceased were identified as Kazi Shaheen, 48, son of late Abdul Khaleq and his wife Rubina Akter, 37, both residents of Islampur in Dhamrai municipality.  

Eyewitnesses said that the couple was traveling from Islampur to Dhulivita when a speeding bus, identified as belonging to "Jatri Seba Deluxe" service, struck their autorickshaw. 

Rubina died on the spot while Shaheen was rushed to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka where he succumbed to his injuries during undergoing treatment.  

SI Anjil stated, "Being informed, police inspected the scene in the afternoon and Rubina's body has been handed over to her family as they raised no objections. Kazi Shaheen's body is yet to arrive from Dhaka."  

The bus has been seized but the driver and the helper remain at large. However, efforts are ongoing regarding the incident, added the SI.
