Motorcyclist killed in Joypurhat road crash

A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger critically injured in a road accident in Joypurhat Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon. 

The accident occurred in Bhadesha Panditpur area of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Maruf, 25, son of Mithu Mia from Kochna area while the injured passenger, Apel, 24, has been admitted to Joypurhat General Hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical. 

Joypurhat Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Shahed Al Mamun confirmed the incident. 

According to police, the accident happened when a bus from National Travels, carrying passengers on a picnic trip from Rajshahi to Mahasthangarh, collided head-on with the motorcycle.  

OC Shahed Al Mamun stated that police promptly reached the scene after receiving information about the accident. While Maruf was declared dead at the scene, Apel was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The bus driver and helper fled the scene but the bus has been seized by the authorities.  

Legal actions will be taken regarding the incident, added the OC.
