Factory owner killed over extortion demand in Narsingdi, 4 held

A power loom factory owner was allegedly strangled to death in Narsingdi after refusing to pay an extortion demand. 

The deceased, Nur Mohammad, 48, was a resident of Kolatpur village in Madhabdi Kathalia union under Sadar upazila. He was the owner of Nur Mohammad Power Loom and Textile Factory.  

Meanwhile, the four arrested are Robin, 21, Rubel, 22, Al Amin, 42, and Rakib Hossain, 21-- all are residents of the Kathalia area.  

According to police and local sources, the suspects had been demanding a ransom of Tk 50 lakh from Nur Mohammad for some time. However, he refused to pay, leading to disputes between the parties.  

On Friday night, the suspects allegedly lured Nur Mohammad out of his home and took him to an abandoned factory nearby. After a heated argument, Robin, Rubel, Rakib, Al Amin, and one unidentified individual reportedly suffocated him to death. In the early hours of Saturday, the suspects attempted to dispose of the body by packing it in a sack and transporting it to Araihazar border in Narayanganj. 

Locals spotted their suspicious activities and intervened, detaining them on the spot. They then alerted the police, who recovered the body and sent it to the district hospital morgue for autopsy.  

Madhabdi Model Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Nazrul Islam confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects are being interrogated. One of the suspects admitted to demanding the ransom while others have provided conflicting statements. 

"We are thoroughly investigating all aspects of the case. Further legal actions are underway, and police are working to apprehend any additional suspects involved in the crime," added the OC.
