A man was killed and several others were injured as dense fog caused in a series of crashes involving around eight to ten vehicles at Srinagar upazila in Munshiganj on Sunday.
The accident took place around 6:00 AM on the Dhaka-Mawa highway at Shologhar area of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Farhad, 40.
Confirming the death, Srinagar Upazila Health Complex doctor Camellia Sarker, said Farhad was brought dead at the hospital.
Citing witnesses, Hasara Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Abdul Quader Jilani said that the chain of crashes began when a lorry struck a private car from behind on the Mawa-bound lane. Shortly after, a bus also hit the private car, followed by a microbus hitting the back of the lorry. Several passenger buses later crashed into the bus ahead, exacerbating the pile-up.
Srinagar Fire Service station officer Dewa Azad said that around 10-15 people were injured in the accident, but it remains unclear in which vehicle Farhad was travelling at the time of the accident.
