An ill-fated father was stabbed to death by his son at Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj district on Sunday.
The incident took place on Sunday at around 11:30 AM in Gobindapur village of Noagaon union under the upazila.
The victim was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 45, father of the accused Rifat, 18, who fled the scene immediately after the attack.
According to locals, Rifat had been struggling with drug addiction for a prolonged period which often led to conflicts within the family. On Sunday, he demanded 2,000 taka from his father to fund his drug habit. When Shafiqul refused and reprimanded him, an argument ensued. In a fit of rage, Rifat grabbed a knife from the house and stabbed his father, killing him on the spot.
Sonargaon Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Abdul Bari said, "Upon receiving the news, we dispatched officers to the location. The body has been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy and efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect."
