Daulatdia ferry services resume after 10-hour disruption

Ferry operations at Daulatdia Ferry Terminal in Rajbari were restored at 11:00 AM on Sunday after a 10-hour disruption caused by a covered van accident at No. 7 pontoon.  

According to sources at the ferry terminal, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday when a covered van lost control while boarding the ferry and became stuck on the pontoon. The accident immediately halted ferry operations, causing significant inconvenience to passengers and vehicles waiting to cross the river.  

The disruption caused heavy traffic at other ferry terminals as vehicles and passengers had to wait for extended periods, leading to significant delays and inconvenience. However, operations have now returned to normal, easing congestion and restoring regular ferry services.

Mohammad Salahuddin, General Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Daulatdia, stated, "We immediately suspended operations to prevent any further accidents. Our team worked cautiously to ensure the pontoon and terminal were not damaged during the recovery operation."  

After hours of effort, the recovery team successfully removed the van, allowing ferry operations to resume smoothly, he added.
