Police recovered a youth reportedly for killing his father at Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj district on Sunday.
The arrested is Rifat, 18, son of the victim, Shafiqul Islam, 45, from Gobindapur village under the upazila.
The incident took place on Sunday at around 11:30 AM in Gobindapur village of Noagaon union under the upazila.
According to locals, Rifat had been struggling with drug addiction for a prolonged period which often led to conflicts within the family. On Sunday, he demanded 2,000 taka from his father to fund his drug habit. When Shafiqul refused and reprimanded him, an argument ensued. In a fit of rage, Rifat grabbed a knife from the house and stabbed his father, killing him on the spot.
Sonargaon Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Abdul Bari said that upon receiving the news, police recovered the body and sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Later, police arrested the accused in the evening and legal actions would be taken in this regard, added the OC.
