Minor child dies of dengue in Barishal

A two-year-old child succumbed to dengue fever in Barishal city on Sunday. 

The child, Shefa, daughter of Delwar Hossain from Bhashanchar area under Mehendiganj upazila of the district, was admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in the city on December 18 after being diagnosed with dengue fever. She passed away around 8 AM on Sunday while undergoing treatment.

This marks the 60th dengue-related death in Barishal division on 2024. In the meantime, 35 new dengue cases were reported in the past 24 hours across various government hospitals in the division, according to the Divisional Health Director, Dr. Shyamal Krishna Mondal.  

Health department data reveals that since January 1 of this year, a total of 8,656 patients have been admitted to hospitals in Barishal division due to dengue. Of them, 8,478 have recovered, while 118 remain under treatment.
