Two individuals were killed and around 500 houses were burnt to ashes in a devastating fire that broke out at Kutupalong Rohingya Camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar district on Tuesday.

The fire erupted around 1 PM in camp No. 1 and quickly spread through the densely packed settlement. On information, 10 units of firefighters worked for over an hour and a half to bring the blaze under control.
Among the deceased, one was identified as Abul Khayer, 60, son of late Solaiman while the another child's identity yet to be ascertained.

Ukhiya Police Station officer-in-charge Arif Hossain, confirmed the incident, saying, "The fire has been brought under control but the damage is extensive. We have recovered the bodies of two children and over 400 homes have been reduced to ashes."

While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, locals suspect it could have originated from either an electrical short circuit or a cooking gas cylinder explosion.

Deputy Director of Fire Service Department, Mohammad Tanharul, reiterated similar findings but noted that investigations are ongoing to identify the source of the fire.
