Two teenagers went missing while swimming in the Karnaphuli River at Sitaghat area under Kaptai upazila in Rangamati on Tuesday.
The incident took place around 1:30 PM and rescue operations by Kaptai Fire Service and local police are still ongoing.
The missing are Shaon Dutta, 17, a ninth-grade student at Railway Public School in Chattogram, is son of Jidan Dutta from Nala Para area in Sadarghat of Chattogram and his cousin Priyanto Das, 16.
According to their friend Salman Ahmed, a group of nine friends embarked on a trip to Kaptai from Rangunia Chandraghona Mission Ghat via boat. Upon reaching Sitaghat, four of them decided to swim in the river. While two managed to return safely, Priyanto and Shaon were swept away by the current.
Kaptai Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Masud confirmed that efforts to locate the missing boys are underway with the help of divers.
