A joint task force in Noakhali's Kabirhat has
arrested a fraudster and seized a large amount of counterfeit U.S. dollars and local currency from his posession.
The arrested individual, identified as Kabir Uddin, 51, was taken into custody, while another accomplice, Mohammad Atik Ullah, 50, managed to flee the scene.
The raid took place on the night of Monday, December 23, in the Nabgram area of Ward No. 8 in the Dhanshiri Union of Kabirhat. During the operation, authorities confiscated 13 bundles of counterfeit U.S. dollars (approximately 130,000 fake dollars) and 250 fake banknotes worth 2.5 lakh Bangladeshi Taka.
On Tuesday, the arrested individual was presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Noakhali, where the judge ordered his remand in prison.
A case under the Special Powers Act has been filed against the two individuals involved.
Kabirhat Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Shahin Mia said that the joint task force conducted the raid based on a tip-off.
Following the seizure, Kabir was sent to jail through the judicial process while efforts are underway to capture the fleeing accomplice, added the OC.
