Police have recovered the body a father of two children from a pond at Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur district on Wednesday.
The body of Ibrahim Khalil, 38, was found early on Wednesday near a pond in Fotiyakhandi area of Kolaspur union in the upazila.
According to locals, Ibrahim was married to Amirun Nesa, 32, daughter of Amir Uddin from the same village and had a son and a daughter. However, Ibrahim's addiction to drugs led to frequent arguments and domestic strife in their household. Eventually, Ibrahim's in-laws took his wife back to her parental home with the condition that he would get better. This caused Ibrahim significant emotional distress.
On Tuesday night, around 8:30 PM, Ibrahim left his house, claiming he was going to his in-laws� house to bring his wife back. Instead, he reportedly went to a nearby pond and consumed poison, taking his own life.
Local residents discovered Ibrahim's body the following morning and informed his relatives and police.
Nalitabari Police Station officer-in-charge Sanwar Hossain confirmed the incident, stating that an unnatural death (UD) case has been filed.
The body was recovered and after a preliminary investigation, it has been sent to the Sherpur District Hospital for autopsy, added the OC.
