A young couple was killed in a road accident at Parbatipur upazila in Dinajpur district on Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred on the Parbatipur-Rangpur highway near Jhaller Mor around 1:30 PM.
The deceased were identified as Tanvir Islam Mohon, 25, a resident of Kismat Kamarpukur village at Syedpur upazila in Nilphamari, and his wife Tajmin Akter, 19, daughter of Momtaj Ali from Dangapara village in Nilphamari Sadar Upazila
According to police and locals, a motorbike carrying the couple collided head-on with a egg-laden covered van coming from Rangpur. Tanvir, the motorbike driver, died on the spot while Tajmin sustained critical injuries.
Despite being rushed to a local hospital with the help of firefighters and locals, Tajmin succumbed to her injuries during undergoing treatment.
Later, the covered van involved in the collision was seized, but the driver managed to flee the scene.
Parbatipur Model Police Station officer-in-charge Abdus Salam confirmed the incident and stated that further investigations are ongoing.
