Suspected robber dies in mob beating

A man was killed in mob beating at Islampur upazila of Jamalpur district on Thursday night over allegations of being members of robbery gangs.

The incident took place around 9:00 PM on Thursday at Jigatola village under the upazila.

The deceased was identifiied as Shejab Ali, 55.

Confirming the matter, Islampur police station officer-in-charge Saifullah Saif said that after being informed, police conducted a drive in the area and arrested two suspected robbers-- Ismail Hossain, 32, and Sorman Ali, 35,-- along with a pistol and eight bullets, while the rest of their associates got away.

"As they were being taken to the police station, the arrestees informed police about a gang member who was critically injured in the mob beating," he said.

Police then found Shejab Ali and took him to Islampur Upazila Health Complex. Later he was taken to Jamalpur General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival, added the OC.
