3 held with 340 sacks of smugggled sugar in Sylhet

Police arrested three people along with 340 sacks of Indian sugar from Bandarbazar area of Sylhet city on Saturday night.

The estimated market value of the seized sugar is over Tk 20 lakh, said the authorities.

The arrested are Md Rasel Mia, 33, Md Jubel Ahmad, 25, and Maron Befari, 23.

According to a press release from Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP), a team of the metropolitan police conducted a drive in front of a restaurant of Bandarbazar by setting a check post on Saturday night and arrested the three with a truck.

Later, a total of 340 sacks of Indian sugar were seized from their procession, reads the notification.

A case was filed against them with Kotwali Model Police Station and they were sent to jail through a court, added the release.
