Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Sunday accused the Awami League government of destroying the country's banks in the past 16.5 years.
Speaking at a rally held at Syedpur Central Bus Terminal in Nilphamari, he claimed that the government had looted money from the renowned Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited and had smuggled out Tk 26 lakh crore abroad.
The rally was presided over by Hafiz Abdul Muntakim, Ameer of the local Jamaat branch.
Dr. Shafiqul further stated that Jamaat-e-Islami aims to transform the country into a prosperous garden where there would be no distinction based on party affiliation, religion, or wealth. He emphasized that women would have access to work opportunities and security.
The rally was organized by the Syedpur Upazila branch of Jamaat-e-Islami with the event being conducted by Secretary Maulana Azharul Islam. The rally also featured speeches from Assistant Secretary-General Maulana Abdul Halim, Regional Director of Rangpur, District Amir Maulana Abdus Sattar, Secretary Maulana Antaj Ali, and other leaders from the local, district, and Rangpur city Jamaat units.
The event saw participation from nearly 8,000 people, including party leaders, workers, and individuals from various professions.
