Gold, silver ornaments stolen from jewellery shop in Dhaka's Mohammadpur

Robbers have looted 816.2g of gold and 6.99kg of silver ornaments from a gold jewellery shop in Chandrima Market of Dhaka's Mohammadpur area.

The theft took place at New Rana Jewellers around 3:15AM on Monday.

Police said, the shop owner Masud Rana complained that 816.2g of gold, 6.99kg of silver and cash Tk 400,000 were stolen.

Masud Rana informed media that he had closed the shop and returned home around 11PM on Sunday. When he came to the shop at 10AM on Monday, he found the collapsable gate and shutter locks broken down. 

After entering, he saw everything vandalised, including the chest. All the gold and silver were kept inside the chest and in the display showcases. 

The shop had 583g of his own gold and 233.3g of mortgaged gold, he added.

The value of the stolen items estimated as approximately Tk 1.54 crore and the silver is valued at around Tk 21.6 lakh.
