MEHERPUR, Jan 5: The 'Voting Car', campaigning ahead of the referendum and national elections with the slogan 'The key to the country is in your hands', arrived in Meherpur on Sunday afternoon.
A documentary film screening began at 3 pm on Sunday at Dr. Shahid Shamsujoha Park in the Meherpur town and continued until 6 pm.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Syed Inamul Kabir inaugurated the campaign of the voting car. Superintendent of Police Ujjal Kumar Roy, Principal of Meherpur Government College Professor Dr. Nazrul Kabir, District Election Officer Enamul Haque, and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khairul Islam were present.
Officials, employees from various government and private departments in Meherpur, and general voters enjoyed the campaign activities.
Apart from speeches by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the documentary films screened through the 'Vote Car' included July Mass Uprising, July Fighter, Abrar Fahad Murder, Felani Murder, Voting of Expatriates, and Reforms through Referendum.
In view of the upcoming referendum and national elections, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs began this journey on December 22 with a fleet of 10 cars called 'Super Caravan'. Although the exhibition was scheduled for Meherpur on December 30, it was postponed due to national mourning.
The exhibition was subsequently held on Sunday, January 4. Braving the severe cold, visitors enjoyed various activities and films of the vote car.
During the inauguration, Meherpur DC Dr. Syed Inamul Kabir said, "In the last three parliamentary elections, people could not exercise their right to vote spontaneously. But in this election, you will exercise your right to vote and express your opinion in the referendum."
"If you are in favour of reforms, if you are in favour of a new Bangladesh, then vote 'Yes'. And if you think that Bangladesh should go backward, that there is no need for reforms, then you will vote 'No'."
