JOYPURHAT, Aug 3: Judge Md Tasruzzaman of Joypurhat Additional Sessions Judge’s Court-1 on Sunday sentenced a man to life imprisonment and fined Tk 5,000, in default, to serve one month in prison for killing his younger brother over a land dispute.
The convicted Ashok Kumar Das is the son of Fanindranath Das of Damdama Village in Panchbibi Upazila of the district.
According to the case details, the victim Siddheshwar, a blacksmith by profession, had been in a dispute with his elder brother Ashok over his land for a long time. Siddheshwar was resting on a bench in front of the shop after finishing work at the blacksmith shop on November 16, 2009.
At that time, Ashok hit Siddheshwar on the head with a heavy hammer and fled the scene. Locals admitted Siddheshwar to Joypurhat Modern District Hospital and later to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where he died on March 29, 2010, while undergoing treatment.
In this incident, the deceased's wife Kamona Rani Das filed a murder case with Panchbibi Police Station. After a long legal process and taking testimony, the court declared the verdict.
