A devastating fire that broke out at a jhut (garment waste) warehouse in Konabari of Gazipur district was brought under control after nearly three hours of intense firefighting efforts.

The incident occurred at around 4:30 PM on Thursday in Deuliabari area under Konabari Police Station of Gazipur Metropolitan City. Upon receiving the information, local residents initially attempted to douse the flames, but the fire spread rapidly due to the presence of highly flammable dry jhut and cotton stored inside the warehouse.

Later, the Fire Service was alerted. Six units from Konabari Modern, Sarabo, Kashimpur and Chourasta fire stations rushed to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control at around 7:00 PM after sustained efforts.

Deputy Director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence Mohammad Mamun said the fire has been fully brought under control. “The jhut stored in the warehouse was completely gutted. However, no casualties have been reported,” he added.

The cause of the fire and the extent of losses could not be determined immediately.
