LALMOHAN, BHOLA, Jan 10: At least 30 people were injured in a series of clashes between BNP and Jamaat-supported Bangladesh Development Party (BDP) activists in Lalmohan Upazila of Bhola on Friday evening.

The incidents occurred at Raichand Bazaar in Ward 6 of Ramganj union. Following the attack, both parties held separate press briefings.

At a night press briefing at the upazila Jamaat office, BDP candidate Nizamul Haque Naeem alleged that the violence began around 11:00am when women activists of his party visited a house for organisational campaigning.

According to him, Rubel, son of Nur Nabi, verbally abused the women activists. The matter was reported to the husband of one activist, businessman Md Jasim Uddin, who later confronted Rubel.

This led to a scuffle at Jasim's business premises. Soon after, more BNP activists gathered, and the conflict escalated further when BNP leaders, including Upazila BNP President Md Zafar Iqbal and Union BNP President Hanif Hawladar, arrived at the scene.

Naeem claimed that as his activists left the market around evening, they were suddenly attacked, leaving at least 15 seriously injured, who were admitted to Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex. He called for swift legal action after proper investigation.

Meanwhile, BNP's General Secretary Shafiqul Islam Babul alleged that the BDP candidate was attempting to destabilise the area, while BNP activists were attacked by Awami League, Jubo League and Jamaat activists. Five seriously injured activists were sent to Bhola and Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Lalmohan OC Oliul Islam said tensions arose over disruption of Jamaat women's dawah activities before Friday prayers.
Police intervened multiple times to restore order and will take legal action if complaints are lodged.
