SREEMANGAL, MOULVIBAZAR, June 5: The 78th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Tea Workers Union was observed in Sreemangal through a discussion meeting and cake-cutting ceremony.
The programme was organised on Wednesday afternoon at the union's central office, "Labour House," where leaders of the organisation highlighted its long 78-year journey, traditions, and role in establishing the rights of tea workers.
Speakers at the discussion recalled the sacrifices and struggles of tea workers' movements, paying deep respect to those who had laid down their lives demanding fair rights and dignity.
They said the sacrifices of these workers remain a lasting inspiration for the tea labour community.
They also noted that although tea workers play a vital role in the country's economy, industry, and export sector, they continue to face deprivation, discrimination, and neglect in many areas of life.
The speakers called upon the authorities concerned to ensure fair wages, education, healthcare, housing, and social protection for tea workers, drawing inspiration from the legacy of those who sacrificed their lives in the movement.
They further urged unity among tea workers to strengthen their ongoing struggle for rights and dignity, expressing hope that the community would continue to advance their movement in a more organised and effective manner.
The programme concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony involving leaders and worker representatives. Participants expressed hope for the continued success of the organisation and greater welfare initiatives for tea workers in the future.
