Amid a rapidly shifting political landscape, a new political platform--the Network for People's Action (NPA)--was formally launched on Friday from the Central Shaheed Minar, calling for the creation of a people-centred political alternative grounded in democracy, equality and social justice.

"We must come together to build a political force rooted in the interests of the people," said Mir Huzaifa Al Mamduh, a former Dhaka University student and one of the platform's initiators, while addressing the launch ceremony.

Huzaifa announced that the NPA will be run by a 101-member central council. Names of 99 members were disclosed at the event, with the remaining posts to be filled later based on recommendations. The announced members include Anik Roy, Alik Mri, Tuhin Khan, Meghmallar Basu, former anti-discrimination student movement coordinator Nazifa Jannat, rights activist Ferdous Ara Rumi, and Taslima Mizi.

Reading out the platform's declaration, Ferdous Ara Rumi, Tuhin Khan and Nazifa Jannat said the NPA will be guided by five core principles: democracy, equality, human dignity, social justice, and protection of life, nature and the environment. Operating under the slogan "People's Power, Future Freedom," the platform has outlined seven broad goals aimed at political, economic and social transformation.

The NPA strongly criticised what it described as a governance system captured by ruling elites, claiming state institutions have drifted away from serving citizens. It pledged to restructure these institutions into accountable, service-oriented bodies that protect people's rights.
