BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman called on party leaders and activists to remain vigilant to counter conspiracies and prevent vote rigging in the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest in an election rally at Kuttapara Mini Stadium in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria district on Thursday.

In his speech, Tarique Rahman said he was delayed in reaching the venue due to large crowds of leaders and activists along the route from Sylhet. Alleging that “deep conspiracies are still underway”, he instructed party workers to remain present at polling centres from early morning on election day, even suggesting they perform the Fajr prayer there and stay in the field until victory for the BNP is ensured.

Outlining election pledges, he said the canal-digging programme initiated by late President Ziaur Rahman would be revived if BNP comes to power, with plans to excavate 20,000 kilometres of canals across the country.

He also promised the introduction of a “family card” for women, effective measures to reduce unemployment and rapid repairs of roads damaged during the previous government’s tenure.

At the end of his speech, Tarique Rahman introduced alliance candidates for Brahmanbaria’s six parliamentary constituencies and urged party leaders and activists to work in unity to ensure their victory.

The rally was presided over by district BNP president and Brahmanbaria Sadar constituency nominee Engineer Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal, while district BNP general secretary Sirajul Islam (Siraj) conducted the event.

Special guests included BNP Chairperson’s adviser and Kasba–Akhaura constituency final nominee Alhaj Mushfiqur Rahman, Sarail constituency alliance candidate Maulana Junayed Al Habib of Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam, and other senior district and upazila leaders.
