After weeks of biting cold, signs of early spring are emerging in Bangladesh’s northernmost districts, with temperatures rising and daily life returning to normal.

The severe cold wave that gripped Panchagarh has eased by mid-Magh, bringing relief to residents and workers alike.

According to local weather data, the temperature in Panchagarh rose to 11 degrees Celsius at 9:00 AM on Sunday.

The end of the prolonged cold spell has resulted in clear, fog-free mornings and bright sunshine across the district. As the sun climbed higher, warmth increased noticeably, with daytime temperatures reaching up to 28 degrees Celsius, making midday conditions feel almost hot.

While mild chill still lingers from evening through the early morning hours before sunrise, the overall intensity of winter has subsided.

The improved weather has been particularly welcome for stone workers and day labourers, who had struggled to work during the harsh cold.

Jitendranath Roy, acting officer at Tetulia Meteorological Observatory, said the district is no longer under the influence of a cold wave.

“The temperature has risen to 11 degrees Celsius. Daytime temperatures are increasing significantly, though clear night skies are causing some cooling after sunset,” he explained.

The Meteorological Department has indicated that temperatures may rise further in the coming days.

Following an extended period of severe cold, the return of sunny weather has brought comfort, renewed activity and a sense of relief to the northern border region.
