EIT initiative creates jobs for 25 youths in Rangpur

With the theme “Training Today, Prosperity Tomorrow,” Engineers Institute of Technology (EIT) Rangpur has taken an initiative to create employment and self-employment opportunities for trained young men and women in the region.

As part of the initiative, employment-support equipment was distributed among 50 trained youths and young women, while 25 trainees who completed training in various trades received appointment letters for jobs.

The equipment and appointment letters were handed over at a programme held at the District Shilpakala Academy in Rangpur city on Sunday morning (August 30), organised to distribute employment-support equipment and provide jobs to unemployed youths and young women.

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu attended the event as the chief guest. Dr Naznin Kawsar Chowdhury, executive chairman of the National Skills Development Authority, was present as the guest of honour. Mohammad Nazmul Alam Nazu, director of Engineers Institute of Technology (EIT) Rangpur, chaired the programme.

Speaking as the chief guest, Asadul Habib Dulu said, “Instead of running after jobs, it is important to acquire skills and create one’s own employment opportunities in the present time.”

He said training should not be limited to obtaining certificates. The knowledge and skills gained through training must be utilised to help young people move towards employment and self-employment. Developing a skilled workforce will not only reduce unemployment but also strengthen the country’s economy, he added.

The minister said providing trained young men and women with necessary employment-support equipment would enable them to turn their skills into practical work. This would bring financial stability to their families while also contributing positively to the local economy.

Speakers at the event said there was no alternative to technical and job-oriented training to transform the country’s large youth population into skilled human resources. Creating employment opportunities after training would boost young people’s confidence and help reduce unemployment. They stressed the need to further strengthen coordinated initiatives by public and private institutions in this regard.

They said training alone would not produce the desired results unless employment and self-employment opportunities were also ensured for the trainees. The distribution of employment-support equipment and creation of direct job opportunities could play an important role in this process, they added.

EIT Rangpur authorities said the institute has been conducting various activities since its establishment to develop skills and connect trained workers with employment opportunities. Initiatives to make young men and women self-reliant through training, distribution of employment-support equipment and creation of job opportunities will continue, they said.

Among others, special guests at the event included Sohel Mahmud, assistant executive programme director and deputy secretary of the Ministry of Finance’s SICIP programme; Mirza Nurul Ganit Shovon of the Informal Sector Industry Skills Council; Rangpur City Corporation Administrator Mahfuz-Un-Nabi Chowdhury Don; Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Israt Jahan; Deputy Director of the District Social Services Department Aniruddha Kumar Roy; REHAB Secretary and Chief Coordinator Kazi Abul Kashem Abeg; Rangpur Development Authority Chairman Shamsuzzaman Samu; District Council Administrator Saiful Islam; Chief Coordinator Murad Hossain; Deputy Director of the Department of Youth Development, Rangpur, Abdul Faruk; and Deputy Director of the Department of Women’s Affairs, Rangpur, Selowara Begum.

The trained youths and young women expressed satisfaction after receiving the employment-support equipment and appointment letters.
