A fire broke out at a timber shop in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar late Monday night, prompting the deployment of eight firefighting units as authorities worked to bring the blaze under control, according to the Fire Service.

The fire erupted around 10:28 pm on Monday, in the timber section of Karwan Bazar, one of the capital’s busiest wholesale markets.

The Fire Service and Civil Defence said it received the first alert at 10:28 pm and immediately dispatched five units to the scene. As the fire intensified, three additional units were later deployed, bringing the total to eight.

Fire Service officials said firefighters were working to prevent the blaze from spreading further in the densely packed market area, which houses fish markets, timber shops and warehouses storing flammable materials.

No immediate casualties were reported, though the extent of damage was not yet measured at the time of reporting.

According to local sources, the fire initially broke out at a diaper warehouse located between the fish market and the timber market in Karwan Bazar. The flames later spread to nearby structures, including wooden shops, raising concerns over rapid escalation due to the presence of combustible materials.

In a separate incident on the same night, another fire was reported at a shoe factory on Agamasi Lane in Bangshal, a densely populated area of Old Dhaka. Three Fire Service units were deployed there to bring the fire under control. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether there were injuries or significant losses in that incident.

The cause of both fires remains unknown, and investigations are expected to be launched once the situations are fully under control.
