Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued nine fishermen from a fishing boat that had been floating in the sea after its engine failed near St Martin’s Island.

According to a Coast Guard source, the incident occurred on Monday, about 10 nautical miles from St. Martin’s Island in deep waters. The fishing boat’s engine had broken down, leaving it adrift in the sea.

Being informed through the Coast Guard hotline 16111, a special rescue operation was conducted, during which all nine fishermen and their boat were safely recovered.

Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the rescue and emphasised that the Coast Guard responds promptly to all emergencies at sea and pledged to continue such rescue operations whenever necessary.

After the rescue, fishermen were provided with essential food and first aid on St Martin’s Island before being handed back to the boat owner.
