State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque on Wednesday said the government is planning to bring national-level athletes under a structured salary framework to improve their living standards and ensure long-term financial security.

He made the remarks at a view-exchange meeting with managing directors and chief executive officers of leading banks and financial institutions, held at the conference room of National Sports Council.

“The current government is working to establish sports as a respectable profession,” the minister said, adding that the proposed salary structure would provide greater stability and recognition for national athletes.

Aminul also called on banks and financial institutions to take a more active role in developing the country’s sports sector and promoting professionalism among athletes.

He announced that the ‘Notun Kuri Sports’ programme; an initiative aimed at identifying talented players from the grassroots level, will be launched nationwide immediately after Eid-ul-Fitr.

Noting that many sports federations in the country face financial constraints, the state minister urged financial institutions to support various sporting disciplines through regular sponsorship and partnership, becoming integral stakeholders in the sports ecosystem.

Banking and financial sector executives present at the meeting welcomed the ministry’s initiative.

They expressed satisfaction at having a sports personality leading the ministry and pledged to work collaboratively to elevate the country’s sports sector to international standards.
