Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to take necessary measures to protect garment workers’ interests, improve their living standards and strengthen their financial capacity while ensuring stability in the country's readymade garment (RMG) sector.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed disclosed the directives after a meeting with the prime minister at the Secretariat on Sunday (November 1) night.
He said the government had formed a new wage board to determine minimum wages through discussions between workers’ and employers’ representatives. The prime minister also stressed maintaining uninterrupted factory operations and export activities.
Salahuddin warned against violence, vandalism and arson during labour protests, saying those involved would face legal action. He urged factory owners and workers to resolve disputes through dialogue and cooperation.
