Uncertainty continues to surround the leadership transition at the University of Dhaka following the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan.
While speculation has been mounting over who will take charge of the country's premier university, emerging signals suggest that Prof Niaz may continue in office for the time being, as discussions point toward appointing the next vice-chancellor through a formal search committee.
Prof Niaz recently submitted his resignation letter, prompting widespread discussion within academic and policy circles about the future leadership of the historic institution. Initial rumors indicated that a senior professor from the university might be appointed as acting vice-chancellor.
However, fresh developments from sources within the university and the Ministry of Education suggest a different course of action may be under consideration.
According to ministry insiders, Minister of State for Education held a meeting with Prime Minister on Monday (March 2) at the Secretariat to discuss the appointment process.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the state minister said the prime minister had inquired about global or international standards for appointing a vice-chancellor at a prestigious institution .
