Member of Parliament from Tangail-8 and general secretary of the district unit of the Bangladesh Awami League Joaherul Islam has been buried.
He was buried with state honour at the local community cemetery after a funeral service at the Berbari Jame Mosque in Tangail's Jadavpur Union of Sakhipur Upazila of Jahor on Monday.
Bangabir Abdul Quader Siddiqui Biruttam, the founding president of the Krishak Sramik Janata League, local leaders, activists, and dignitaries, as well as people from different walks of life attended the funeral prayers.
Earlier, Joaherul Islam body was brought to Bangladesh through the Benapole checkpost at around 10:30 pm on Sunday, said Benapole Checkpost Immigration Inspector (Investigation) Syed Mortaza. Later, his body was brought to Tangail by an Indian ambulance.
Local and family member said that Joaherul Islam passed away on Friday while receiving treatment at Phoenix Medical Center Private Limited, a private hospital in Dumdum, Kolkata.
