Man beaten to death in Kishoreganj

A man was beaten to death by a mob in Kishoreganj’s Pakundia upazila after being suspected of stealing a cow early Friday.


The deceased was identified as Romiz Uddin, 40, son of Hazrat Ali Munshi, a resident of Char Algi village in the upazila.


According to locals, the incident took place around 3:00 AM on the bank of the Old Brahmaputra River in Dokkhin Charteki area under Charfaradi union.


Romiz Uddin was reportedly moving along the riverbank with a cow when workers engaged in constructing blocks for a river protection embankment grew suspicious and detained him.


Later, as news spread that a suspected cattle thief had been caught, locals gathered at the scene and beat him severely, leaving him dead on the spot.


Pakundia Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) SM Arifur Rahman confirmed the death and said that thr body has been sent to Kishoreganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
