COX'S BAZAR, Mar 10: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified surveillance in the border areas due to the risk of illegal fuel smuggling through the Teknaf border. Simultaneously, search operations at various border checkpoints and naval patrols in the Naf River have been strengthened.

The information was disclosed at a press conference held on Tuesday at around 1 pm at the Bangladesh-Myanmar Transit Jetty Ghat. The briefing was addressed by the Commanding Officer of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB), Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hanifur Rahman.

He stated that the BGB has taken precautionary measures anticipating that some dishonest syndicates might attempt to smuggle fuel illegally in the border area. To prevent smuggling, special searches are being conducted at border checkpoints, and water vessels plying the Naf River are being kept under strict surveillance.

In addition to monitoring suspicious individuals, vehicles, and vessels, intelligence activities have also been bolstered. Awareness programmes are also being carried out involving the local population in the border area.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hanifur Rahman further said that duties are being performed with the utmost vigilance in the border area to protect the country's energy resources. Strict legal action will be taken against those involved in fuel smuggling.
Other officials present at the press conference included the Deputy Commander of BGB-2, Major Mubasshir Naqueeb Torafder, and the Naval Platoon Commander, Lieutenant Fuad Rahman, among others.
