
NARAYANGANJ, June 15: The ‘Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Debate Festival-2026’ was inaugurated on Monday morning at the Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium.
Organised by the Narayanganj Sadar Upazila administration, under the Climate Resilient Campus Initiative, and with overall assistance from Logic Bangladesh, this eight-day festival will continue.
Under the theme ‘The Dandy of the East in the Breeze of Reason’, the inaugural ceremony was attended by Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharf Uddin Ahmed Choudhury as the chief guest. The event was chaired by Narayanganj District Administrator and District Magistrate Md. Rayhan Kabir. Leadership in planning and implementing the festival was provided by Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer S M Fayez Uddin.
In his speech, the chief guest emphasised the importance of developing rational and analytical attitudes among students. Praising the role of such events in raising climate awareness, he said that through debate, students will become skilled in tackling environmental and climate change challenges.
In his address as chair, District Administrator Md. Rayhan Kabir expressed determination to establish Narayanganj, known as the ‘Dandy of the East’, as a bright example of education and intellectual practice.
After the opening segment, a debate workshop was held. Around 60 students and 60 teachers from more than 64 educational institutions in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila took part.
The organisers said that 32 teams from the primary level and 28 teams from the secondary level will compete in this eight-day festival. Under the knockout system, the two best selected teams will take part in the Grand Finale on 2 June at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
Famed as the Dandy of the East, Narayanganj is not only an industrial city but also a pioneer in education, intellect and knowledge-based activities. The organisers expect that this ‘Debate Festival-2026’ will act as a bridge between Narayanganj’s heritage and the national debate arena, alongside developing the talents of Narayanganj students.
