Three killed in road mishaps in three districts

Three people were killed and 22 others injured in separate road accidents in Kushtia, Brahmanbaria and Sirajganj districts on Saturday.

DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: A BNP leader was killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision between two motorcycles on the Kushtia-Pragpur road in the Mathpara area of Pragpur Union in Daulatpur Upazila of the district on Saturday night.

The deceased Ataur Rahman, 53, was the son of late Ujir Biswas of Garura Futanipara Village of Adabaria Union in the upazila and the organising secretary of Ward No. 2 BNP of the union.

According to police and local sources, following the collision, all three motorcyclists were seriously injured. They were rushed to the Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex, where Ataur Rahman was declared dead.

Among the injured, Shuvo Hossain, 35, of Kaipal area of the upazila has been shifted to Kushtia General Hospital. The other injured, Humayun Kabir, 21, of Dukhipur area, is undergoing treatment at the health complex.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station (PS) Arifur Rahman said that further legal action was taken in this incident.

BRAHMANBARIA: A woman was killed and at least 20 passengers were injured when a passenger bus lost control and overturned on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the Bariura area of Sarail Upazila of the district early Saturday.

The deceased Moyuri Akhter, 40, was a resident of Madarkhali Village in Hajikhali Union of Sadar Upazila of Patuakhali District and the wife of Md Sohel Mia.

According to police sources, following the accident, the woman was killed on the spot and 20 were injured. On information, Sarail Fire Service, police and local people rescued the injured and sent them to various hospitals. 

Sarail Fire Service In-charge Idris Ali Sheikh confirmed the accident.

Highway PS OC Abu Taher said that necessary legal proceedings are underway in this incident.

SIRAJGANJ: A motorcyclist was killed in an accident on his way home from watching the World Cup football match in front of the main gate of Raiganj Pilot High School on the Raiganj-Pangasi road early Saturday.

Deceased Sifu Ahmed Asif, 19, was the son of Amir Hossain of Nishchintapur Village in Dhangara Union of Raiganj Upazila and a student of Government Begum Nurun Nahar College in Raiganj. 

Raiganj PS OC Ahsanuzzaman said that Asif was seriously injured in the accident. Locals quickly took him to Raiganj Upazila Health Complex from where the doctor referred him to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital but he died on the way. After completing the legal process, the body has been handed over to the relatives.
