A Dhaka court on Monday sent Md Abdus Salam to jail in a case filed for allegedly defrauding people by posing as the Personal Secretary (PS) to the Prime Minister.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order after a hearing.
According to the prosecution, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md Bulbul Ahmed of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, produced the accused before the court and sought a five-day remand for interrogation. The defence filed a bail petition, but the court rejected it and fixed 24 March for the remand hearing.
Police said Salam was arrested on 15 March around 7am from the Agargaon area of the capital.
Investigators alleged that Salam had long been using a fake identity as the Prime Minister's PS to carry out fraud, including illegal financial transactions and job scams in various government and private offices.
Following complaints and preliminary investigation, a team of detectives raided his residence near the Agargaon Water Tank area and arrested him.
