A fire broke out on the Dhaka-bound 'Chattala Express' moving train at Faujdarhat area in Chittagong's Sitakunda upazila on Thursday morning.
The blaze originated around 6:45AM on the train, carrying more than 600 passengers across its 16 coaches, when it reached near Faujdarhat and Cumira areas. Then panic gripped the passengers.
It affected the engine and two bogies of the Chattala Express. Passengers quickly disembarked after the fire broke out.
Eyewitnesses said suddenly they found fire and smoke from the two bogies. Some tried to got down from the train.
Fire service officials arrived at the scene upon receiving information and brought the fire under control.
The recovery work of the damaged bogies underway. The situation is now normal.
Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, Railway Divisional Manager for Chattogram, told media that the fire originated primarily in the power car and then spread to another bogie.
