Shops and warehouses were burnt in separate fire incidents in two districts- Khulna and Khagrachhari, on Friday and Saturday.
KHULNA: A devastating fire broke out at Jamjam Daroga Bazar in the Phulbari Gate area of the Khulna City early Saturday, leaving at least four shops and two warehouses completely gutted.
According to local people and fire-fighters, the fire originated in the early hours of the morning and quickly spread to adjacent business establishments due to the presence of highly flammable materials.
The speedy flame of the blaze caused extensive damage before fire-fighters and local residents brought the situation under control.
The fire-fighters could not be known cause of fire originating immediately, said Md Abdul Malek. Deputy Director of Khulna divisional fire service and civil defence office.
On information, Khulna City Corporation Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju rushed to the spot and inspected the damage area. He visited each affected shop and warehouse and spoke with the businessmen to assess their losses.
During the inspection, the administrator expressed deep shock to the affected businessmen and assured them of all possible assistance from the city authorities.

KHAGRACHHARI: At least 35 shops were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at Boalkhali Bazar in Khagrachhari's Dighinala Upazila early Friday.
Upon receiving the information, four units from Dighinala and Sadar fire service stations rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control after nearly three hours of effort, around 6 am.
Fire service officials suspect an electrical short circuit as the possible cause of the blaze.
Fire service personnel were assisted by police, the army, and local residents in the firefighting operation.
A local trader said fires occur frequently in Dighinala and Boalkhali bazaars every year, but there is a lack of an adequate firefighting system, including nearby water sources.
