Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday told the parliament that the government is working to develop Bangladesh Police into a "three-dimensional (3D) force" to strengthen law enforcement and ensure public safety.

Replying to a starred question from ruling party MP Mohammed Fakrul Islam in Jatiya Sangsad, he said the initiative includes modern, technology-based training, establishment of advanced training centres, and the addition of helicopters, vehicles, and equipment to enhance operational capacity.

He said these steps have enabled police to play a more effective role in maintaining law and order. The force is increasingly relying on technology, including scientific investigation methods, CCTV surveillance, and the Crime Data Management System (CDMS) for improved case management. Services such as National Emergency Service 999, online general diaries, and online police clearance have also strengthened public access to policing.

Responding to another starred question from BNP MP Abul Kalam Azad Siddique, the minister said short-, medium-, and long-term plans are being implemented to further modernise the force, alongside advanced training at home and abroad.

Replying to a supplementary question from BNP MP Zainul Abdin Farooq, he said those who carried out armed attacks against the public during the July Uprising-regardless of affiliation-are criminals and have been brought under legal process. Cases have been filed and are being investigated, with some already under trial at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

In response to another supplementary question from BNP MP Abul Kalam Azad Siddique, the minister said steps have been taken to review and withdraw politically motivated cases filed between 2009 and 2024. District-level committees have been formed to examine such cases, with decisions to be taken based on recommendations from a central body.

He also said the government is committed to ensuring legal and constitutional protection for those involved in the July Uprising, noting that an ordinance has been introduced and will be enacted into law.

Salahuddin Ahmed reiterated that the judiciary will operate independently and the government will not interfere in legal proceedings. He made the remarks during the parliamentary question-answer session.
