Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin and Press Secretary Abu Abdullah M Saleh (Shibly) have been appointed as spokespersons for the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The appointments were announced in a notification issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Sunday.
According to the notification, under Rule 28(4) of the Rules of Business, 1996, Mahdi Amin and Abu Abdullah M Saleh will serve as official spokespersons responsible for disseminating and providing information related to the Prime Minister’s Office to the press, media and other platforms.
Mahdi Amin, who holds the status of a state minister, is currently in charge of Ministry of Education, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and Ministry of Labour and Employment.
Ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, he played a key role in BNP’s central election management committee and also served as a spokesperson.
During the election period, he regularly briefed the media on the party’s position from its election office in Gulshan.
Mahdi has also been actively involved in meetings, seminars, workshops, rallies and policy initiatives related to education, training, employment, youth and women’s empowerment, as well as inclusive development and state reform based on the party’s 31-point agenda.
In 2014, he became an adviser to Tarique Rahman, then senior vice chairman of BNP. In 2024, he took on responsibilities as a member of the party’s Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee, carrying out key duties prior to Tarique Rahman’s return to the country.
He has long been associated with socio-economic development initiatives in South Asia and has worked closely with the current prime minister for many years.
Abu Abdullah M Saleh has had a long career in journalism, working with several media organisations, including the news agency UNB, the daily Manabzamin, Banglabazar Patrika and Channel i.
He served as general secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity in 2004 and previously as general secretary of Dhaka University Journalists’ Association in 1994.
He also served as press secretary to Tarique Rahman during his tenure as acting chairman of BNP.
During the Four-Party Alliance government, Saleh worked as First Secretary (Press) at Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata. He has also worked closely with Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman for several decades.
