One more child has died with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours in Bangladesh, while 1,118 new suspected and confirmed cases were reported, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.
According to the DGHS daily update, the death was reported among children showing measles symptoms, although no death was confirmed to have been directly caused by measles infection during the period.
With the latest figure, the total number of deaths linked to measles and measles-like symptoms since March 15 has risen to 719. Of these, 626 deaths were associated with suspected measles symptoms, while 93 were confirmed measles cases.
In the last 24 hours, 167 children were confirmed to have measles, while 951 were recorded with measles-like symptoms. During the same period, 882 children were newly admitted to hospitals and 908 were discharged after treatment.
DGHS data shows that since March 15, a total of 102,028 suspected measles cases and 12,132 confirmed cases have been reported nationwide.
During the same period, 85,509 patients have been hospitalised, of whom 81,882 have already recovered and returned home, the health authority said.
