LAXMIPUR, Apr 5: Twelve children are currently undergoing treatment at the Laxmipur 100-Bed General Hospital with symptoms of measles, sparking a ramp-up in local medical facilities.

In the 24 hours leading up to Saturday evening, three new patients were admitted. This brings the total number of patients treated for measles or suspected symptoms at the hospital to 39 over the last three months.

Dr Abu Hasan Shahin, the Laxmipur Civil Surgeon, confirmed the situation on Saturday evening.

The Civil Surgeon stated that samples from 39 patients have been sent for testing so far, with measles being officially confirmed in four cases. "Currently, 12 children remain hospitalised with symptoms. On a positive note, two children were discharged in the last 24 hours after making a full recovery," he said. To ensure dedicated care and prevent further spread, a 10-bed isolation ward has been established at the hospital.

Despite the rise in admissions, medical experts are urging the public to remain calm. Assistant Professor Morshed Alam Hiru, a paediatric specialist, assured that there is no cause for panic. "The number of patients we are seeing is well within our control. Those currently admitted are largely out of danger and are responding well to treatment," he added.
