Seminar on sustainable drainage, sanitation held at CUET

A seminar titled “Building Resilient Sanitation Systems: STP, FSM and Sustainable Drainage in Practice” was held on Monday afternoon at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET).

The event was organised by Institute of River, Harbor and Environmental Science (IRHES) at the seminar room of the university’s Department of Civil Engineering.

CUET Vice-Chancellor Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan attended the seminar as the chief guest, while Asiful Haque, Director of IRHES, presided over the session.

Special guests included Tanvir Ahmed, Professor of Department of Civil Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Regional Director of Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS) and Md. Riaz Akhter Mallick, Head of Department of Civil Engineering at CUET.

Among the resource persons were Professor Dr. Tanvir Ahmed, Professor Dr. Asiful Haque, Professor Dr. Sudip Kumar Pal of Civil Engineering Department and Mohammad Shahab Uddin, Executive Engineer at Chittagong WASA.

Speaking at the event, Vice-Chancellor Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan emphasized that a safe and clean environment is essential for a healthy and dignified life. 

He noted that effective and sustainable sanitation systems are fundamental to achieving such an environment.

He added that proper sanitation not only improves public health but also contributes significantly to poverty reduction, economic growth and overall social development.
