3 lakh to get measles, rubella vaccine in CCC areas

Chattogram, APR 17: A month-long campaign (April 20-May 20) has been taken to bring more than 3 lakh children under the measles-rubella vaccination in the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) area. 

The vaccination campaign will be inaugurated at the CCC General Hospital auditorium at 10am on April 20. Vaccination activities will continue from 8 am to 5 pm every day (except Fridays and public holidays).

This information was disclosed at a press conference organised at the CCC Public Library Conference Room on Laldigh area on Thursday. The press conference was presided over by CCC Chief Executive Officer (Acting) Mohammad Ashraful Amin. Under the vaccination campaign, all children aged 6 months to 59 months in the CCC area will be given one dose of measles-rubella vaccination. 

The press conference informed the extensive preparations have already been made at the central and field levels to make the campaign successful. These include training of health workers, preparation of volunteers, coordination meetings with religious leaders and teachers, miking and mass awareness activities.

According to CCC sources, a target of vaccinating a total of 3 lakh 300 children in 41 wards of 7 zones has been set for the campaign. For this, 48 permanent teams, 205 temporary teams, 41 mop-up teams and 14 evening vaccination sessions will be operational.

Among others, Divisional Director (Health) Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jahangir Alam, CCC Chief Health Officer Dr. Md. Imam Hossain Rana, Dr. Hosne Ara, Dr. Tapan Kumar, Dr. Khadija Ahmed, Dr. Abdul Majid Sikder, UNICEF Health Officer Dr. Delwar Hossain, World Health Organization Divisional Coordinator Dr. Imong Pro Chowdhury, Islamic Foundation Deputy Director Fahmida Begum were present at the press conference.
