Former Bangladesh national cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal has been elected as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) with a record-shattering mandate, according to reports.
Representing Old DOHS in the Dhaka Club category (Category-2), Tamim secured the highest number of votes among all candidates, polling 73 out of 74 cast ballots.
The elections took place on Sunday at the BCB boardroom located within the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Following the conclusion of voting at 4:00 PM and subsequent counting, the results were finalized at 6:00 PM. In the highly competitive club category, 12 directors were elected from a pool of 16 candidates.
Joining Tamim on the new board from the club quota are Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed and Israfil Khosru (72 votes each), Masuduzzaman (70 votes), Yasir Faisal (68 votes), and both Fahim Sinha and Shanian Tanim (66 votes each). Other successful candidates include Saquef Ahmed Salam (65 votes), Asif Rabbani (64 votes), Mirza Yasir Abbas (63 votes), Rafiqul Islam Babu (53 votes), and Dr. Mahbub Shamim (41 votes).
Four candidates failed to secure a seat: Borhanul Pappu (40 votes), Amzad Hossain (32 votes), Fayazur Rahman Mitu (23 votes), and Major Imroz Ahmed (20 votes). Out of the 76 total eligible votes in the club category, 74 were cast.
