Schoolboy killed in Gazipur road crash

An eight-year-old schoolboy was killed after being crushed by a covered van in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila on Sunday noon.

The incident occurred in front of Keowa Purba Khanda Government Primary School.

The deceased was identified as Tanvir Islam Arian, son of Swajal Islam, a resident of Balubari area under Kotwali Police Station in Dinajpur. He had been living in Sreepur and was a second-grade student at the local primary school.

According to sources, the incident took place when Arian was crossing the road after school hours. He was reportedly trapped between a boundary pillar and a covered van coming from behind, leading to his death on the spot.

The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, though the vehicle has been seized.

Sreepur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Nasir Ahmed said the body has been recovered and legal proceedings are underway.
